How it Works

Zydrox contains Hydroxyurea, which:

  • Blocks an enzyme called ribonucleotide reductase
  • Prevents DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells
  • Stops the multiplication of cancer cells

This helps control disease progression and abnormal blood cell production.

Dosage & Administration

Use only as prescribed by your doctor.

General dosage guidelines:

  • Cancer (Solid Tumors / Head & Neck):
    • 20–30 mg/kg daily OR
    • 80 mg/kg every 3 days
  • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia:
    • 20–30 mg/kg once daily
  • Sickle Cell Disease:
    • Starting dose: 15 mg/kg/day
    • Gradual increase based on response
    • Maximum: 35 mg/kg/day

Take the capsule with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Side Effects

Like all chemotherapy medicines, Hydroxyurea may cause side effects.

Common side effects:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Weakness and fatigue

Serious side effects:

  • Bone marrow suppression
  • Low white blood cells (infection risk)
  • Low platelets (bleeding risk)
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Skin darkening or rash

Regular blood tests (CBC) are required during treatment.

Warning and Precaution

  • Avoid during pregnancy (risk of birth defects)
  • Use reliable contraception during treatment
  • Not recommended during breastfeeding
  • Regular monitoring required:
    • Blood counts
    • Liver function
    • Kidney function
  • Increased risk of:
