Description
Xpovio 20 mg Tablet contains selinexor, a targeted anticancer medicine classified as a selective inhibitor of nuclear export (SINE). It is used in the treatment of certain blood cancers, particularly multiple myeloma, and in some cases diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Selinexor works by blocking a protein called exportin-1 (XPO1), which plays a role in transporting tumor suppressor proteins out of the cell nucleus. In many cancer cells, overactivity of exportin-1 can lead to reduced activity of tumor-suppressing proteins that help control abnormal cell growth. By inhibiting this transport mechanism, selinexor helps restore the activity of these proteins and may slow or stop cancer cell proliferation when used as prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional. Xpovio tablets are taken orally and are usually prescribed as part of combination therapy with other anticancer medicines
Benefits
-
Targets exportin-1 (XPO1), a protein involved in cancer cell survival
-
Represents a novel mechanism of action in cancer treatment
-
Oral tablet therapy that can be taken outside hospital settings
-
Often used in combination regimens for relapsed or refractory cancers
-
Part of modern targeted therapy approaches in hematologic oncology
Indications and Usage
Xpovio (selinexor) may be prescribed for:
-
Multiple myeloma, often in combination with other anticancer medicines
-
Relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma in patients who have received prior therapies
-
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in certain treatment situations
Treatment decisions depend on disease type, prior treatments, and clinical evaluation.
How it Works
Selinexor works by inhibiting exportin-1 (XPO1), a nuclear export protein responsible for transporting certain regulatory proteins from the nucleus to the cytoplasm of the cell. In many cancer cells, XPO1 is overexpressed, which leads to the removal of tumor suppressor proteins from the nucleus, weakening their ability to control cell growth.
By blocking XPO1, selinexor helps retain tumor suppressor proteins within the cell nucleus, restoring their function in regulating cell division and promoting cancer cell death. This mechanism may help slow disease progression when the medicine is used as prescribed and monitored by an oncology specialist.

Clinical Trial & Approvals
Selinexor has been studied in clinical trials evaluating treatment for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Trials such as the STORM and BOSTON studies demonstrated clinical activity of selinexor-based regimens in certain patient populations. Based on these results, selinexor received approvals from regulatory authorities including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for specific oncology indications.
