About Mitotane

Mitotane, an adrenal cortex inhibitor, is employed in the treatment of adrenocortical tumors and Cushing’s syndrome. It is a derivative of the insecticide dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane (DDD), which is a metabolite of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT).

Mitotane hinders the cells of the adrenal cortex and their hormone production. Initially introduced in 1959 to address inoperable adrenocortical carcinoma, it is also utilized off-label for managing Cushing’s syndrome.
